SAILING
My brother Dave shot a little video on the trip in 2010 from Long Island, Bahamas to Puerto Rico.  He recently posted it on YouTube

GRENADA DINGHY CONCERT
We went to a dinghy concert in Grenada. Lots of dinks rafted off a tugboat listening to a trio named Madison Violet. Jackie and I are in the dink between the green dink and the yellow dinghy on the far right. We also show up around 1:47 into the video.

GRENADA SAILING FESTIVAL Jan. 28 – Feb. 1, 2011
I walked the docks at Port Louis Marina and found a ride for this event. La Vida was a Moorings 515 charter boat. The owner, Gary Lohman, and some friends had her for their vacation which included sailing the regatta. We are the boat in the middle at the start of this video. We are the first around the mark. I am driving.

About ten seconds into this next one the commentator says, “…and the Moorings boat that’s about to tack…” We are that Moorings boat and again I’m driving.

Here are some shots of Kinabalu (on the right, sail number SIN 434), the boat Jackie was on

No, they didn’t hit the mark. About four seconds into this video Kinabalu appears from the far side of the black boat.

GRENADA SAILING FESTIVAL WORKBOAT REGATTA Feb. 2011

Traditional workboats from all around Grenada including the islands of Carriacou and Petit Martinique gather on Grande Anse Beach to see who takes home bragging rights as the best sailors. The first video is a bit long, but it really gives the flavor of this event.

This is a tough event. Not all boats finish.

And even the ones that do finish, don’t always finish as well as they would like. The first boat in the video looks like they will win, but the misjudged and had to tack. They got excited and blew the tack letting another boat pass them. The guy dives out of the first boat because traditionally the first person to the judges stand is the winner (and gets a shot of their choice of booze) but this guy was still way behind.

SOUTH GRENADA REGATTA Feb. 25-27, 2011
Our friends Jeff and Connie entered their Swan 47, Roxie, in this “fun race”. I offered to crew along with their friends Lorna and Andy. It was typical Grenadian racing. It blew over 20 knots and the swell and wind chop were substantial. Roxi enters the video at 0:41 into the video just after Alexa goes by.
